Sing With Us

Why Join?

That saying that music is good for the soul? It’s true!

You’ll add your voice to a welcoming community of singers.

You’ll be making music, laughing, having fun, and waiting impatiently for the next rehearsal.

What Musical Talents are Needed?

Previous choral experience and the ability to read music are both truly helpful, but your inherent musicality may be enough. Bring along your love of singing, community, and joy in music-making!

How to Join

To start the process, please email us at [email protected]. Space permitting, you’ll be invited to attend and observe a rehearsal and then schedule an audition.

How Auditions Work

Prepare a song of your choice, in any style that you feel best ‘shows-off’ your voice. You may sing a cappella or bring your own sheet music for the accompanist to play.

Auditions are conducted by our Artistic Director, Kathryn Nicholson, and accompanist Diane Lines.

Following your song, Kathryn will lead you through a few simple vocal exercises to determine your vocal range. It’s normal to feel a little nervous about auditioning, but you can count on it being a supportive and encouraging experience.

Within a week of your audition, you will be contacted directly about the results.

When and Where Do We Rehearse and Perform?

We hold weekly in-person rehearsals at St. Clement’s Anglican Church in Lynn Valley, North Vancouver, Tuesday evenings from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m.

We have two terms per year, each comprised of 15 rehearsals. We schedule one or two additional sectional rehearsals per term, as needed. Sectionals are organized by section leaders and take place outside of the regular practice schedule.

We normally hold two concerts per year, one at the end of each term.

Practice Resources

Audio tracks for each song/choir part are available on our member website to help with individual at-home practice.

We also record all rehearsals on Zoom and make the recordings available to our members as an extra practice resource.

Expectations

While attending rehearsals by Zoom is an option for members who are feeling unwell or who may occasionally be away, our strong preference is that you attend in person.

Rehearsing together in person is a big part of how we shape our sound and prepare for concerts.  And we love to see you each week!

Choir Fees

If you join us (and we hope you will!), the fees per term are $275.  This covers our rental of rehearsal and performance spaces, music purchases, and the salaries of our Artistic Director and Accompanist.  The fees are adjusted periodically as choir member numbers and costs vary, but we make every effort to minimize the change.
